Hemsby Rockabilly Festival

Every year thousands of rockabilly fans from across the globe descend on the sleepy seaside town on the North East Coast of England to immerse themselves in the music and glamour of the 1950’s. The Hemsby Rockabilly Weekender, now in its 17th year, is the largest and most established rockabilly festival in Europe.  Run twice yearly at a Pontin’s holiday camp on the Norfolk coast, people come to relive the colours and styles, renew old friendships and reignite the spirit of a lost age.




Going for Gold: World Masters Athletics Championships - Puerto Rico 2003

In July 2003, the tropical island of Puerto Rico hosted the 15th World Masters Athletics Championships.  Over 3000 athletes ranging in age from 35 to over 100 arrived from 79 countries to break world records and celebrate their passion for life and the sport.

In the UK, the British Masters Athletics Federation has over 7000 active members including several in their 70s and 80s, and 200 of them self funded their places on the British team at the championships.  Competition is in 5-year age groups i.e. 40-44, 45-49, with no upper age limit.




The Serpentine Swimmers

Since 1864, swimmers have been diving into the murky waters of Hyde Park’s Serpentine for a weekly race held every Saturday morning at 8am, no matter what the weather.  If the lake is frozen they break a hold in the ice to enable them to get their morning constitutional.
